Bulgarian hospitals see mixed results in director elections

Recent leadership competitions conducted by the Bulgarian Ministry of Health have resulted in mixed outcomes for several hospitals.

In Haskovo, the Ministry failed to select an executive director for MBAL Haskovo. Following interviews with candidates Dr. Georgi Gelov, Dr. Mariyan Zapryanov, and Prof. Dr. Petar Petrov, no ranking was established for the top position. Consequently, the current executive director, Dr. Georgi Gelov, will remain in his role as he is the legally registered representative of the institution. However, new members were selected for the Board of Directors, including Plamen Stoilov as an independent member and Milena Lozova as the state representative.

At UMBAL Prof. Dr. Stoyan Kirkovich in Stara Zagora, no ranking was completed for the director position despite the participation of the current director, Dr. Yovcho Yovchev. Similar to Haskovo, the board saw new appointments, with Prof. Dr. Boryana Mitkova Paraskhevo-Simeonova and Irena Milanova joining the leadership.

In contrast, MOBAL Dr. Stefan Cherkezov will have a new director. Following the final stage of the procedure, Dr. Angel Angelov, formerly the head of the neurology department, was ranked first, succeeding Dr. Daniel Iliev.
