Bulgarian hospital leadership transitions

Overview

The Bulgarian Ministry of Health has been conducting leadership changes and elections across several hospitals. In late September, elections yielded varied results: MBAL Haskovo and UMBAL Prof. Dr. Stoyan Kirkovich failed to establish rankings for new executive directors, resulting in current directors remaining in place while new board members were appointed. Conversely, MOBAL Dr. Stefan Cherkezov successfully appointed Dr. Angel Angelov as the new director.

By late October, the Ministry moved to replace the entire Board of Directors at MBAL ‘Hristo Botev’ in Vratsa following a withdrawal of confidence. Despite a failed shareholders' meeting due to a lack of quorum and threats of protests, the Ministry is pursuing a stabilization strategy to address negative management practices. A new leadership team is expected to officially take over management following an emergency meeting in mid-November.
