Bulgarian National Bank launches limited‑edition Preobrazhenski Monastery silver coin

The Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) will issue a new collector silver coin on 3 August 2026 commemorating the Preobrazhenski Monastery. The 10‑euro coin is struck in .999 fine silver, weighs 23.33 g, measures 38.61 mm in diameter and is limited to 5,000 pieces. It is priced at €132 (≈258 BGN).

The design, created by artist Svetlin Balezdrov, shows a stylised fragment of Zahari Zograf’s “Wheel of Life” fresco on the obverse and a full view of the monastery complex on the reverse. Sales are restricted to one coin per person, regardless of whether the purchase is made for personal use or on behalf of another party. Buying for someone else requires a notarised power of attorney, and the coin cannot be sold to anyone under 18.

Coins will be sold at eight BNB counters – four at the central building on Prince Alexander I Square and four at the cash centre on Mihail Tenev Street in Sofia – and will also be available through Investbank, First Investment Bank, Texim Bank, Tokuda Bank, Municipal Bank, Central Cooperative Bank and the “Coin Yard” network. This issue is the fourth collector release in BNB’s 2026 series celebrating Bulgarian churches and monasteries, with additional commemorative coins planned later in the year.
