Bulgarian National Bank coin for Preobrazhenski Monastery
Overview
The Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) announced a limited‑edition 10‑euro silver collector coin dedicated to the Preobrazhenski Monastery as part of its 2026 "Bulgarian Churches and Monasteries" series. Minted in .999 fine silver, the coin weighs 23.33 g, measures 38.61 mm in diameter and is capped at 5,000 pieces. Priced at €132 (≈258 lev), it can be bought only once per customer and purchasers must be at least 18 years old.
The obverse displays a stylised fragment of Zahari Zograf’s fresco “The Wheel of Life,” while the reverse shows a full view of the monastery complex; both designs were created by artist Svetlin Balezdrov. Sales began on 3 August 2026 at eight BNB counters in Sofia and through partner banks—including Investbank, First Investment Bank, Texim Bank, Tokuda Bank, Municipal Bank and Central Cooperative Bank—as well as the Mint and the “Coin Yard” network.
This issue marks the fourth collector coin BNB released in 2026, with additional commemorative coins for other Bulgarian churches and monasteries planned for later in the year.
