Bulgarian citizens arrested for medical impersonation frauds
Bulgarian citizens have been arrested in connection with multiple fraud schemes involving impersonation of medical professionals in Serbia and Croatia.
In Belgrade, a 54-year-old Bulgarian national, D. H., is suspected of posing as an orthopedic surgeon to defraud two women. Between August 21 and September 5, the suspect and an accomplice allegedly contacted victims claiming their children were critically injured in traffic accidents and required urgent surgery. One victim was coerced into handing over 5,670 euros and 8,800 dinars in front of her building, while another provided 7,050 euros and 378,000 dinars through her apartment window. Prosecutors have requested detention for D. H. due to flight risk.
In Croatia, police in the Koprivnica-Križevci area arrested a 47-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman, both Bulgarian citizens, for similar activities. They are accused of making fraudulent phone calls to elderly individuals, claiming to be hospital staff or family members in need of urgent funds for medical treatment. The group is suspected of completing three successful frauds totaling nearly 38,000 euros and attempting 11 additional scams.
