Bulgarian parties clarify stances on judicial and presidential elections

Bulgarian political parties have clarified their positions regarding upcoming elections and judicial appointments. GERB representative Toma Bikov announced that while the party will not nominate its own candidates for the Prosecutor's Office, it will not provide unconditional support to candidates from Progressive Bulgaria.

Separately, SDS Chairman Iliya Lazarov stated that his party will not field its own presidential candidates but will offer categorical support to a GERB candidate if one is nominated. However, Lazarov explicitly rejected support for Andrey Gyurov, stating he does not meet the necessary requirements for the role. Lazarov emphasized that the presidency serves as a vital 'insurance policy' for the state during international crises, such as the conflicts in Ukraine and the Persian Gulf, necessitating a leader with deep expertise in foreign policy.
