Bulgarian police increase security for September national holidays

Bulgarian police are implementing enhanced security and traffic measures to ensure public order during the upcoming September celebrations, including Unification Day and Independence Day.

In Plovdiv, specialized units and Gendarmerie forces will manage security for mass cultural and sporting events. Traffic changes are planned for Sunday, including a phased stoppage of motor vehicles for a marathon from the town of Saedinenie to Saedinenie Square. Certain sections of Vasil Aprilev Boulevard and Shexti Septemvri Boulevard will face closures. Access to security zones near the square will be managed through checkpoints, with strict prohibitions on weapons, pyrotechnics, glass bottles, and intoxicated or aggressive individuals.

In the Sliven region, including Nova Zagora, Kotel, and Tvarditsa, increased police presence will focus on preventing crime and ensuring road safety. Authorities will conduct continuous monitoring on the Trakia motorway using both marked and unmarked vehicles, as well as drones to detect dangerous overtaking and risky behavior. Specialized operations will target driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and speeding. Controls will also extend to two-wheeled and individual electric vehicles.
