Bulgarian politicians and business leaders debate rising costs

Bulgarian political and business figures are addressing rising costs of goods and fuel amid economic uncertainty. Georgi Georgiev, a GERB-SDS deputy, criticized President Rumen Radev, arguing that political confrontations and 'theatrical' displays are distracting from the real issues facing citizens, such as inflation and winter preparedness.

In the business sector, Milena Dragayska, CEO of a major retail chain, denied allegations of excessive markups. Responding to claims of markups exceeding 100%, Dragayska stated that the company operates on low margins, earning between 2 and 5 euros for every 100 euros of turnover. She attributed high food prices to structural issues in agriculture and a lack of sufficient domestic production, suggesting that reliance on local producers is necessary for food security, similar to models in Poland, France, and Germany.
