Bulgarian road agency restricts heavy trucks on Trakia, Struma and I‑1 Sunday

On Sunday, 2 August, the Bulgarian Agency for Road Infrastructure imposed a temporary ban on heavy‑truck traffic (vehicles over 12 tonnes) on the Trakia and Struma motorways and on road I‑1 through the Kresna Gorge. The restriction runs from 15:30 to 22:00 in both directions and aims to reduce the risk of accidents and long queues as many motorists return from seaside resorts.

Trucks travelling to or from Burgas may use the alternative Podbalkan road I‑6, while traffic to and from the Kula border crossing is rerouted via road II‑19, III‑198 and III‑1981. Two lanes will be dedicated to traffic toward Sofia and one lane toward Kula. Exemptions apply to vehicles over 12 t that provide passenger transport, carry hazardous goods, live animals, fast‑perishable food, temperature‑controlled cargo, emergency rescue trucks, or road‑maintenance vehicles.
