Bulgarian State Railways trains vandalized in Pernik

A second incident of vandalism involving new Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) rolling stock has been reported in Pernik, where a train was defaced with spray paint. This follows a similar incident involving new equipment at the Blagoevgrad station just ten days prior.

Petar Bunev, chairman of the Railway Workers' Union, noted that the new trains arrived before the necessary infrastructure and cleaning technologies were in place. He highlighted that while stations have video surveillance, it is designed for general station security rather than monitoring specific train compositions. Implementing direct surveillance would require public procurement processes lasting at least three months.

Bunev also cited budgetary challenges, noting that capital transfers intended for improving depots and stations were reduced in the recent budget discussions. BDZ has declined to comment, stating they are awaiting findings from law enforcement.
