Bulgarian Tourist Injured by Bear Attack in Romania
A 46‑year‑old Bulgarian tourist, Georgi Bizev, was traveling on a mountain road near the Vidraru dam in Romania when he stopped his vehicle to photograph and feed a bear and its cub. The bear suddenly lunged onto the car, swiped the window and attempted to pull the driver out. Bizev suffered bite wounds on his left hand, but his seat belt prevented more serious injuries. Other drivers shouted and tried to scare the animal away while emergency services responded.
Local authorities warned that feeding bears is prohibited and that the area – known locally as a “bear passage” – sees frequent wildlife encounters. Bizev was taken for medical treatment and returned to Bulgaria for further care.
