Bulgarian tourist injured by bear near Vidraru Dam in Romania
A Bulgarian tourist, about 45 years old, was bitten on the left forearm by a brown bear while attempting to photograph the animal in the vicinity of Vidraru Dam on the Transfăgărășan road. The incident occurred on Wednesday and the victim drove himself to the nearby gendarmerie post, where a officer called for emergency assistance.
A qualified SMURD medical team arrived, provided first‑aid treatment, and transported the man to hospital. The incident triggered a RO‑ALERT message, and authorities noted more than 20 recent calls reporting bear presence in populated areas of the Argeș region. Officials advise residents to stay indoors, keep a safe distance from wildlife, avoid feeding bears and refrain from trying to take photos with them.
