Bulgaria's Health Minister Katya Ivkova orders inspection of Lovech hospital
Health Minister Katya Ivkova ordered the Executive Agency “Medical Supervision” to inspect the Prof. Dr. Paraskov Stoyanov Hospital in Lovech, Bulgaria. The inspection was conducted together with regional deputy minister Dr. Iviан Benishev, who oversees medical facilities.
During the visit Ivkova examined five to six departments, noting that only one still had patients. She reported that the hospital is operating at roughly 30% capacity and faces severe financial difficulties and mismanagement. A former urology floor is described as almost destroyed, with no attempts made to clear old furniture or re‑plan the space.
Ivkova emphasized the need for more effective management and cooperation between the hospital leadership and medical staff to stabilize the institution. The visit concluded with a meeting with heads of all departments, allowing them to raise their daily operational concerns directly with the minister.
