Bulgaria's Health Minister Katya Ivkova Vows to Keep National Children's Hospital

Health Minister Katya Ivkova told a press briefing that the government will not abandon the construction of the National Children’s Hospital and that the project remains a priority. She said the ministry will regain control over the implementation process and that the Health Investment Company for the Children’s Hospital already has more than €46 million in its account, so no additional funding is required for this year.

The design and author‑supervision procedure for the hospital was appealed and is currently being examined by the Supreme Administrative Court, effectively halting the project. Opposition parties have criticised the 2026 budget for omitting specific funding for the hospital, while a proposal to guarantee financing was rejected by a majority of the ruling party in parliament.
