Bulgaria's Slavia football club mourns two children killed in Trakia highway crash

Fans, former teammates and officials gathered at Slavia Sofia’s Aleksandar Shalamov stadium to lay flowers and read messages in memory of two academy players who died with their father in a severe crash on the Trakia highway near Yambol. The boys were travelling to a youth tournament in Albania, and their coach Ivan Terzijski was stabilized while his wife remains in serious condition.

The club announced a month‑long mourning period, halted all youth training and organized a charity match on 22 July featuring Slavia’s second team, Levski’s reserve side and CSKA’s third squad. Ticket prices will be symbolic and proceeds will go to the victims’ families, with a dedicated donation account also being opened. The Bulgarian Football Union and other clubs publicly expressed condolences, and the event is being used to call for stricter road safety measures.
