Indonesia expands rice food assistance to 33.2 million people
The Indonesian government is expanding its food assistance programs to mitigate the impact of the dry season and potential price increases. Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan confirmed that an additional 1 million tons of rice has been approved for distribution to 33.2 million beneficiaries from October to December 2026.
Perum BULOG is accelerating the distribution of existing rice aid for the July-September period, providing 30 kilograms per recipient to cover the three-month gap. To ensure efficient delivery, especially to geographically challenging areas, BULOG is collaborating closely with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).
In addition to direct food aid, the government has allocated 1 million tons of rice for the Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program to manage market prices through March 2027. BULOG is also conducting market monitoring across various regions, including Lampung and Cirebon, to maintain supply stability and prevent inflation.
