Bundesverband Metall urges German government to implement promised reforms

Willi Seiger, President of the Bundesverband Metall, has called on the German government to follow through on its promised reform agenda. Seiger noted that while there was a sense of momentum and a unified coalition stance regarding a reform package before the summer break, recent political discussions and the state election in Saxony-Anhalt have led to renewed uncertainty.

He emphasized that the German economy faces significant structural challenges, including a lack of growth, record insolvency rates in parts of the industry and medium-sized businesses, high energy prices, excessive bureaucracy, and high non-wage labor costs. Additionally, the sector faces intense global pressure, particularly from Chinese providers. Seiger urged the government to move past mere announcements and deliver concrete decisions and regulations to support the metalworking industry.
