Bundeswehr plans 100 major armament projects for 2026

The German Ministry of Defence is planning approximately 100 large-scale armament projects for the second half of 2026. Each of these projects involves a volume exceeding 25 million euros and will require approval from the Bundestag starting in September.

Internal documents reported by ‘Welt am Sonntag’ suggest a significant upward trend in procurement. While 2025 saw 100 such projects, the number could rise to nearly 150 in 2026 and up to 170 in 2027. The planned initiatives span all branches of the Bundeswehr, with a particular focus on ammunition procurement.

Specific technical areas slated for improvement or acquisition include the Eurofighter, F-35, Patriot, Iris-T, Boxer infantry fighting vehicles, and Heron TP drone weaponry. Other priorities include naval equipment, space reconnaissance, and military infrastructure. The plans also include new business dealings with the United States.
