Bunker film starring Bardem and Cruz premieres at Venice Film Festival
The film ‘Bunker’, directed by Florian Zeller, premiered in competition at the Venice Film Festival, reuniting actors Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz. The psychological thriller explores the strain on a seventeen-year marriage after the husband, played by Bardem, accepts a commission to build a survival bunker for a wealthy tech tycoon.
Director Florian Zeller noted that the concept was inspired by news of a tech billionaire constructing a bunker in Hawaii. The film addresses themes of environmental crisis, social inequality, and the paradox of individuals who build digital connections while preparing for physical isolation. During the premiere, Penélope Cruz was visibly moved, receiving fifteen minutes of applause in the Sala Grande.
Following the screening, an intimate after-party was held at the JW Marriott on Isola delle Rose, attended by the cast and various production partners.
