Bunker release dates announced following festival run

Overview

Following its festival circuit appearances in Venice, Toronto, and Zurich, official release dates have been announced for Florian Zeller’s psychological thriller ‘Bunker’. The film is scheduled for an awards-qualifying run in New York and Los Angeles beginning December 11, 2026. Its wide release is set for January 15, 2027, in the United States via Sony Pictures Classics, and February 12, 2027, in Spain through Elástica Films.

Director Florian Zeller recently attended the film’s premiere at the BFI London Film Festival 2026. Co-written with Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat, the film explores the unraveling lives of a successful Spanish couple, Miguel and Sofia, living in London. The narrative follows Miguel, an award-winning architect played by Javier Bardem, and his wife Sofia, played by Penélope Cruz, as they navigate marital strain and moral compromise when Miguel considers a lucrative project to build a survivalist bunker in Hawaii for a Silicon Valley tech mogul, portrayed by Paul Dano.

The ensemble cast also includes Stephen Graham and Patrick Schwarzenegger. As the couple prepares for potential global catastrophe, the task of designing a luxury underground bunker forces them to confront deep-seated questions regarding security, success, and family protection. Early critical reception following the London premiere has noted the film’s intense character study and its exploration of privilege, desire, and paranoia, though some reviews suggest the narrative attempts to tackle too many thematic elements simultaneously.
