Bunker thriller starring Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz set for 2027 release

The psychological thriller ‘Bunker’, written and directed by Florian Zeller, has received official release dates. Starring Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz, the film is scheduled to open in the United States on January 15, 2027, distributed by Sony Pictures Classics. In Spain, the release is set for February 12, 2027, via Elástica Films.

Before the wide release, the film will undergo an awards-qualifying run starting December 11, 2026, in New York and Los Angeles. The project has already screened at the Venice, Toronto, and Zurich film festivals, with an upcoming screening scheduled for the BFI London Film Festival.

The plot follows a successful architect, played by Bardem, who accepts a morally ambiguous contract to build a survivalist bunker in Hawaii for a tech billionaire. The decision causes a rift in his 17-year marriage with his wife, Sofia, played by Cruz. The ensemble cast also includes Stephen Graham, Paul Dano, and Patrick Schwarzenegger.
