Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom trains leaders and seeks medical funds for King

The Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom (BKK) has initiated training for County Chiefs and clan leaders focused on customary guidelines for managing the estates of deceased persons and protecting vulnerable populations. The program aims to prevent violence against women and girls and utilize cultural structures to safeguard widows and orphans.

Simultaneously, the ruling Babiito clan has issued an appeal for financial assistance to fund specialized medical treatment abroad for Omukama Dr. Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I. Chief Prince Fred Mugenyi Rucunya stated that the king’s health has deteriorated, leaving him unable to fully perform his royal duties. While Kingdom Prime Minister Andrew Byakutaga Ateenyi confirmed the Omukama is unwell and receiving treatment, specific details regarding the illness or the location of care were not disclosed.

Leadership disputes within the kingdom have reportedly hindered mobilization efforts for the king’s medical needs. Rucunya noted that a lack of recognized leadership over the past three years has weakened the institution and caused divisions among subjects, calling for cooperation between elders, government officials, and clan leaders to restore stability.
