Bureau of Land Management Keeps Fire Restrictions on Oregon and Washington Public Lands

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced that statewide fire restrictions remain in effect across its public lands in Oregon and Washington. Visitors are urged to check current closures and restrictions, which vary by location, before traveling.

Prohibited items include fireworks, exploding or metallic targets, steel‑core ammunition, tracer and incendiary devices, and sky lanterns. Local rules also address the use of power tools, types of stoves and campfires permitted, and required safety equipment. BLM officials, including Acting State Director Kim Prill and Northwest Geographic Area Fire Chief Josh O’Connor, emphasized that preventing human‑caused fires protects firefighters and communities. The agency advises creating defensible space around homes, assembling go‑bags, and planning evacuation routes. Further details are available on the BLM fire‑restriction web pages.
