Burghele Hospital expands robotic-assisted urological surgery
The Prof. Dr. Theodor Burghele Clinical Hospital in Bucharest has launched a new robotic-assisted urological surgery program, specifically targeting patients with prostate cancer, renal tumors, and urinary tract reconstruction needs.
In partnership with the ‘Carol Davila’ University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the INOFORMDOC project, funded by European funds, aims to perform 250 minimally invasive operations using a state-of-the-art Da Vinci robot. The initiative also focuses on medical education, with plans to train six medical teams and support doctoral students in the field of minimally invasive surgery.
While the technology utilizes a robot, the procedures are entirely controlled by surgeons via a console. The system provides a magnified, three-dimensional view of the surgical field, allowing for greater precision in confined anatomical spaces. Benefits for patients include smaller incisions, reduced blood loss, decreased postoperative pain, and potentially faster recovery times compared to traditional open surgery.
