European hospitals implementing Da Vinci robotic surgery
Overview
Medical facilities in Romania and Italy have launched programs utilizing the Da Vinci robotic surgical system to enhance minimally invasive procedures.
In Bucharest, the Prof. Dr. Theodor Burghele Clinical Hospital, in partnership with the ‘Carol Davila’ University of Medicine and Pharmacy, initiated the INOFORMDOC project. Funded by European resources, this program aims to perform 250 operations for conditions such as prostate cancer and renal tumors while training medical teams in robotic-assisted techniques.
Similarly, the ASST Cremona hospital in Italy has implemented the system to serve surgical teams at both the Cremona and Oglio Po hospitals. Following an inaugural nephroureterectomy, medical staff noted that the technology provides a magnified 3D view and greater precision in complex anatomical spaces, though surgeons continue to determine the use of robotic assistance on a case-by-case basis.
