Senegal President Bassirou Diomaye Faye announces Magal festival, education reforms and new ministers
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye presided over Senegal's Council of Ministers on 29 July 2026. He announced that the 132nd edition of the Magal of Touba will take place on 2 August 2026 and ordered the government to ensure full logistical and security arrangements. The president visited Touba on 26‑27 July, meeting Serigne Mountakha Bassirou Mbakke and reaffirmed state support for water‑ and sanitation‑projects in the city.
He highlighted education as a national priority, congratulated students who passed examinations, and instructed ministries to complete the evaluation of the 2025‑2026 school year while accelerating school‑building programmes and university projects.
The council also issued a series of high‑level appointments: Mamadou Moustapha Dia was named Director of Domains, Abdourahmane Ba became Director of Customs Investigations, and Papa Ibrahima Senghor was appointed Director General of the National Recovery Agency, among other senior posts in the ministries of Economy, Finance, Higher Education, Energy and Petroleum.
