Burkina Faso 2026 governance reforms

Overview

In late July 2026 the Burkinabe government released two related updates on its governance agenda.

On 24 July the ministries presented mid‑year evaluations of the 2026 contracts of objectives. Execution rates ranged from roughly 55 % to 64 % across security, foreign affairs, basic education and higher education. The security ministry announced a “zero‑tolerance” stance on corruption, while the education sector highlighted near‑universal pass rates for the Primary Certificate exam. A few days earlier, on 23 July, President Ibrahim Traoré chaired a Council of Ministers that approved a budget amendment increasing projected revenue and spending while keeping the deficit at 2.6 % of GDP. The amendment earmarked extra resources for agropastoral and fisheries development and introduced reforms to liberalise the construction‑materials testing market, ending a monopoly and setting new quality‑control regulations for public works.

Together the releases illustrate a coordinated push to monitor performance, tighten anti‑corruption measures, boost fiscal capacity and modernise sectoral regulations as part of Burkina Faso’s 2026 development plan.
