Burkina Faso advances digital transformation through new funding and platforms

Burkina Faso is advancing its digital transformation through new funding mechanisms and administrative platforms. The West African Development Bank (BOAD) and Germany’s KfW have established the Digital Transformation Fund (FTD), a 71 billion CFA franc initiative designed to support digital modernization across the eight UEMOA countries.

The FTD aims to finance projects involving the dematerialization of administrative procedures, public service modernization, digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, data governance, and the use of artificial intelligence. To ensure effective implementation, a workshop is being organized in Ouagadougou to help Burkinabè public administrations understand the fund's eligibility and access conditions.

In parallel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched three new digital platforms to modernize consular and diplomatic services. These include a diaspora portal for online appointments and registration, an ‘E-Protocole’ system for diplomatic and airport access cards, and a centralized web presence for the ministry and its 52 diplomatic missions abroad. These tools are intended to simplify administrative steps and improve service accessibility for citizens and international organizations.
