China and African nations strengthen media cooperation in Beijing

African nations and China are strengthening media cooperation through the 7th Forum on China-Africa Media Cooperation held in Beijing. The forum focuses on digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and audiovisual production to enhance people-to-people exchanges and economic development.

Representatives from various countries emphasized the need for African professionals to master the tools required to shape their own narratives. Togo’s Communication Minister, Yawa Ahofa Kouigan, highlighted the goal of producing content that showcases an “Africa that acts,” moving beyond crisis-dominated reporting. Burkina Faso is also seeking to modernize its media infrastructure and enhance professional training through technological partnerships with China.

Other participating nations, including São Tomé and Príncipe, identified capacity building, infrastructure, and modernization as essential pillars for their communication sectors. The discussions aim to create integrated value chains in film, broadcasting, and digital content creation to foster mutual understanding and economic growth.
