Burkina Faso and Senegal seize over 2.4 bn FCFA in illegal drugs and fraudulent goods

On 23 June 2026, Burkina Faso’s Coordination Nationale de Lutte contre la Fraude (CNLF) announced it had seized products worth 846 million FCFA between 11 – 22 June. The seizures included 890 cartons of illicit herbicides, 220 bags of counterfeit detergent (valued at 28.29 million FCFA), a 50‑tonne load of fertilizer estimated at 42 million FCFA, and psychotropic substances—63 parcels of Tramaking and Tapentadol—worth 756 million FCFA. Dr Mohamadi Compaoré stressed that only the state‑owned SOBIMAP is authorised to import fertilizer, highlighting the operation’s role in protecting youth and the national economy.

In Senegal, customs officers in the Kaffrine region destroyed 1.6 bn FCFA of prohibited items on 26 June, just before the International Day against drug abuse. The incinerated stock comprised counterfeit medicines, Indian hemp, black cash and illegal plastic bags. Officials warned that fake drugs are being diverted to produce synthetic narcotics and stressed the public‑health threat. The operation follows earlier large‑scale destructions in Kaolack, Tambacounda and other regions earlier in the year.
