Burkina Faso anti‑fraud agency seizes over 141 million FCFA in illegal goods

Between 20 July and 5 August 2026, Burkina Faso’s Coordination nationale de lutte contre la fraude (CNLF) confiscated fraudulent products worth a total of 141.38 million FCFA. The operation targeted the diversion of subsidised diesel, contraband medical supplies, prohibited alcoholic energy drinks, chicha, illegal plastic packaging and a range of smuggled foodstuffs.

Key seizures included a tanker with 10 000 litres of subsidised diesel valued at 11.9 million FCFA destined for an illegal steel plant, a repeat interception of 13 000 litres of diesel meant for a granite company, and a consignment of medical consumables – kits, syringes, suture wires and 76 cartons of anabolic products – valued at about 68 million FCFA. Additional confiscations comprised 136 cartons of alcoholic energy drinks, 25 cartons of chicha, 160 parcels of banned plastic sachets, and a truck‑trailer loaded with sugar, rice, oil, tomatoes and other food items worth 34.4 million FCFA.

Dr Mohamadi Compaoré, the CNLF coordinator, said the raids prevented an estimated loss of several million francs to the state treasury and underscored the agency’s commitment to protect public revenues and consumer health.
