West Africa anti‑fraud seizures

Overview

During late July 2026, law‑enforcement agencies in Benin and Senegal carried out coordinated raids that seized more than 500 bottles of counterfeit spirits in Benin and over 30,000 cans of non‑conforming soda in Senegal, initiating legal action against the traders involved. Within the same period, Burkina Faso’s national anti‑fraud coordination (CNLF) reported a series of operations that confiscated goods worth roughly 141 million FCFA, including subsidised diesel destined for illegal industrial use, medical consumables, alcoholic energy drinks, chicha, prohibited plastic packaging and assorted foodstuffs. The successive actions illustrate a broader regional push by West African authorities to clamp down on counterfeit, smuggled and otherwise illegal products, emphasizing both consumer safety and protection of state revenues.
