Burkina Faso food prices for cereals and rice drop significantly

In Burkina Faso, prices for several widely consumed food products saw a significant decline in June 2026. Official data indicates a downward trend for rice, local cereals, cowpeas, and edible oils compared to the same period in 2025.

Specifically, the price of a 50 kg bag of local smoked rice fell by 10.2% from the previous month and 8.7% year-on-year. Imported rice saw a more substantial annual decrease of 13.5%.

Local cereals experienced even sharper declines over the past year. The price of white maize dropped by 34.1%, white sorghum by 30.9%, and local millet by 30.3%. During the second quarter of 2026, average prices for millet, sorghum, and maize were 288.5 FCFA, 226.8 FCFA, and 182 FCFA per kilogram, respectively.
