Alliance of Sahel States adopts transborder cooperation roadmap
The Alliance of Sahel States (AES), comprising Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, has adopted a new roadmap to transform their shared borders into zones of security and prosperity. During a meeting in Ouagadougou, the three nations validated an additional protocol to the Confederation Treaty focused on transborder cooperation.
The new legal framework establishes a consultation mechanism between administrative authorities in border regions. This initiative aims to coordinate responses to security, humanitarian, and development challenges. By engaging regional governors in regular dialogue, the AES intends to move away from vulnerable border zones toward integrated spaces of shared sovereignty and economic development.
