Burkina Faso launches Koglego 2 security operation

Burkina Faso's Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, has launched ‘Koglego 2’, a large-scale security operation designed to strengthen population protection and prevent criminal activity. The operation involves targeted cordons, controls, and searches, initially conducted in several neighborhoods of Ouagadougou and its periphery between the night of September 10 and 11, 2026.

Unlike previous generalist operations such as ‘Wibga’, ‘Koglego 2’ utilizes intelligence-led policing. Interventions are concentrated in specific areas identified as high-risk or criminal hotspots through mapping and intelligence gathered by competent services. The goal is to disrupt criminal networks, prevent hostile actions, and increase the reactivity of the defense and security forces.

The operation, coordinated by the Ministry of Security's operations center, is scheduled to continue through the end of the year and will gradually expand to cover the entire national territory. Minister Sana emphasized the importance of cooperation between different security components and urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious behavior to emergency numbers.
