Burkina Faso launches national campaign to combat malaria

Burkina Faso has officially launched the 2026 National Anti-Vector Days (JNLAV) to combat malaria through the destruction of mosquito breeding sites. The initiative, themed "Let us no longer be accomplices to mosquitoes, let us destroy larval habitats," focuses on environmental sanitation to reduce mosquito proliferation.

Key activities include clearing stagnant water, cleaning gutters, destroying used tires, and weeding surrounding areas. In Ouagadougou, the launch was led by Minister of State Émile Zerbo, who emphasized making sanitation a collective responsibility. In the commune of Nanoro, local authorities and residents mobilized to clear debris and stagnant water to create a healthier environment.

Health Minister Dr. Robert Kargougou stated that the campaign aims to establish a lasting culture of prevention within communities, rather than acting as a one-time event. The government is calling on local governors and administrators to prioritize sanitation and the elimination of larval habitats as part of territorial action.
