Burkina Faso launches national campaign to combat malaria

Burkina Faso has launched the second phase of its National Vector Control Days (JNLAV), a nationwide campaign aimed at reducing the impact of malaria and dengue. The initiative focuses on destroying mosquito breeding sites through community-led sanitation efforts, including cleaning gutters, managing used tires, and filling stagnant water pools.

Government officials, including Minister of State Ismaël Sombié and Minister of Health Dr. Robert Lucien Jean-Claude Kargougou, participated in field operations in Manga to demonstrate the importance of environmental hygiene. The campaign emphasizes that individual responsibility in maintaining clean domestic environments is crucial to preventing mosquito proliferation.

In addition to sanitation, the country is also working to integrate traditional medicine into national healthcare frameworks to enhance health sovereignty. This includes increasing research and the use of improved traditional medicines within official disease management protocols.
