Burkina Faso launches road safety week and vehicle management training

Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Security opened the 10th edition of the National Road Safety Week on 31 July 2026 in Ouagadougou. The ceremony, chaired by Colonel Atto Jules Sian on behalf of Minister‑counsellor Mahamadou Sana, set the theme “Patriote, je m’engage à être civique sur la route” and will run until 7 August. Authorities note an average of about 23 000 traffic accidents each year, causing more than 15 000 injuries and over 1 000 deaths; in the first quarter of 2026, 305 people already lost their lives on the roads. The week will feature public awareness campaigns, a licence‑retrieval fair, a photo exhibition and other activities aimed at changing driver behaviour.

In parallel, the publishing house Editions Sidwaya held a two‑day training on 28‑29 July 2026 for its directors and drivers at its Ouagadougou headquarters. Led by Director‑General Assétou Badoh and facilitated by senior accountant Ghislain Wendyam Fidèle Paceré, the session introduced new regulations on the management of state vehicles and fuel, emphasizing optimal resource use, compliance with the latest legal texts and improved accountability for the state’s non‑financial assets.
