Burkina Faso Minister inspects Fada N’Gourma slaughterhouse project

Burkina Faso’s Minister of Agriculture, Ismaël Sombié, visited the Gulmu region on September 14, 2026, to monitor the 2026-2027 agropastoral campaign and engage with rural producers.

During the visit, Sombié inspected the construction of a modern slaughterhouse in Fada N’Gourma. This facility is part of a national initiative to enhance livestock transformation and is part of the ‘Zero livestock export on foot’ operation. The project, which has a physical execution rate of 58.34%, costs over 3.5 billion FCFA. Once complete, the slaughterhouse is expected to process 70 cattle, 200 small ruminants, and 40 pigs daily.

The Minister emphasized that rural actors, including farmers and herders, are vital to national food sovereignty, noting they represent more than 70% of the country's population. Discussions also highlighted priorities such as improving potable water supply and infrastructure investments to support the agricultural economy.
