Burkina Faso reaches IMF agreement to support economic growth

Burkina Faso and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have reached a service-level agreement to finalize the sixth review of the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) and the second review of the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF). Pending board approval in mid-January 2027, the agreement is expected to unlock approximately 38.6 billion FCFA under the ECF and 13.2 billion FCFA under the RSF.

The Burkinabè economy shows strong growth prospects, with real GDP projected to reach 4.4% in 2026 and 4.8% in 2027. This growth is supported by a dynamic gold sector and the formalization of artisanal mining. Additionally, investments in irrigation and fertilizer access have bolstered agricultural resilience against climate disruptions.

Inflation is expected to remain within the BCEAO target range of 1% to 3%. On the fiscal front, the government aims to maintain a deficit of approximately 2.7% of GDP in 2026, with a preliminary target of 3.3% for 2027.
