Burundi National Defence Force advances regional cooperation and military training

The Burundi National Defence Force (FDNB) has undertaken several initiatives to strengthen regional cooperation and internal professionalization. In Tanzania, FDNB personnel participated in the sixth annual East African Community (EAC) civil-military cooperation (CIMIC) week from August 24 to September 1, 2026. During this event, Burundian soldiers donated $10,000 worth of equipment to the Kurasini orphanage center and spent an estimated $20,000 on facility rehabilitations. Burundian troops also provided medical care to Tanzanian patients in collaboration with local forces.

Domestically, the FDNB celebrated the graduation of the 15th promotion at the Command and Staff College (ECBEM) in Kinanira on September 4, 2026. Thirty graduates received certificates aimed at modernizing military leadership to address contemporary threats, including terrorism, cyberattacks, and climate crises. Lieutenant General Jean Paul Habimana, deputy chief of the FDNB, emphasized that the training is designed to provide commanders with the intellectual agility necessary to protect national sovereignty in a multidimensional conflict environment.
