Burundi President Ndayishimiye inaugurates new hotel and meets EAC Secretary General

Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye has engaged in both domestic economic promotion and regional diplomatic activities. On August 8, 2026, the President inaugurated the TOHA Hotel, a 12-story building and modern parking facility in the Rohero zone of Bujumbura. During the event, Ndayishimiye encouraged Burundian investors to direct their capital toward domestic projects to create local employment and support the nation’s 2040 and 2060 development visions. He also called upon banks to support citizens lacking the necessary capital to realize development projects.

In a separate diplomatic meeting on August 11, 2026, President Ndayishimiye, acting in his capacity as the Chairperson of the African Union, received Ambassador Stephen Patrick Mbundi, the new Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC). Mbundi expressed gratitude for Burundi’s support during his election and discussed the implementation of the EAC’s 7th Development Plan. The discussions focused on mobilizing regional forces to increase trade among member states, targeting a market of at least 300 million people.
