Brazil sees spate of fatal road accidents on highways

A series of road accidents across Brazil claimed multiple lives and injured dozens this week. In Paraná, a mother and her two young daughters were killed when their car left the BR‑369 and struck a tree. In Minas Gerais, a truck carrying corn overturned on the MGC‑120 and its cargo was looted; a separate crash on the MGC‑491 left one driver dead and two injured. A melon‑laden trailer toppled on the RN‑226 without fatalities, while a brake failure caused a melón truck to flip in Minas Gerais.

Other incidents include a motorcyclist killed after running a red light in Santos, a 28‑year‑old rider who collided head‑on with a bus on the AMG‑0335 in Divinópolis, and a drunk driver who capsized a car on MG‑050, injuring himself and a passenger. A cattle‑laden bitrem fell into the median on BR‑364 in Acre, and a truck driver died in a multi‑vehicle crash near Itaituba, Pará. A motorbike collision in Bahia left one dead and another burned. In Campo Grande, a loose overhead wire caused a couple on a motorcycle to fall. A tourist bus overturned on BR‑116 in Bahia, injuring five passengers. Over the weekend, 25 accidents on federal highways in Goiás resulted in three deaths and 26 injuries. Causes cited range from brake failures and loss of control to intoxication and poor road conditions.
