Bus crash kills two pilgrims on highway in Ceará, Brazil

A bus carrying religious pilgrims overturned on the CE-456 highway near the community of Bom Jesus, close to Canindé in the interior of Ceará, Brazil. The accident, which occurred at about 6 a.m., resulted in two fatalities. Twenty‑three passengers were taken to the Santa Casa de Canindé emergency department, with two transferred to a tertiary hospital and four undergoing surgical procedures. Fourteen patients remain under observation.

The local sanctuary of São Francisco das Chagas expressed its sorrow, saying it united "in prayer for the victims, their families and all those facing this moment of pain." This crash marks the second deadly bus incident in Ceará within a month, following a June 15 accident on CE-187 that killed seven members of a basketball team and injured more than 30 others.
