Bus crash on Rio Grande do Sul bridge kills driver, injures seven

A passenger bus fell from the Carreiro Bridge on the RS‑324 highway between Casca and Paraí in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The accident occurred after the bus collided with the rear of a truck that had braked sharply to avoid a stopped car. The bus driver was killed and seven of the eight passengers were injured; the remaining passenger was unhurt. The driver of the abandoned car fled the scene. Emergency services, including SAMU, local fire brigades and police, treated the injured and secured the site.

Investigators from the Military Police’s Road Command are examining the crash to determine its precise causes. The truck, a Volkswagen Delivery, and the car, a Chevrolet Corsa, were also involved, but occupants of the truck escaped without injury.
