Bus driver strikes disrupt transport in Brazil's Federal District

Drivers of the Amazônia Inter company ended a 40‑hour strike on June 20 after the company paid overdue wages, allowing intercity buses to resume service between Planaltina de Goiás, Brasília, Sobradinho and Formosa. The settlement also included a promise to pay additional amounts for extra trips by Monday, June 23.

On June 22, drivers employed by Marechal launched a new strike that halted the daily movement of roughly 175,000 passengers across the Federal District’s Bacia 4 area, including Ceilândia, Taguatinga, Águas Claras and Guará. The walkout caused crowded bus stops and delayed commutes for workers, students and other travelers.

Both actions highlight ongoing labor disputes in Brazil’s public‑transport sector, affecting intercity and intra‑district services in the Brasília region.
