Bus workers' strikes in Manaus and Teresina paused amid wage talks

In Manaus, the planned citywide bus workers' strike that could have halted the entire fleet on May 18 was temporarily suspended after the drivers' union and the state transport companies' association (Sinetram) agreed to dialogue. A meeting is set for May 20 at the Municipal Institute of Urban Mobility to discuss wage increases, and the union warned that a strike could resume if negotiations stall.

Meanwhile in Teresina, drivers and conductors staged two‑hour service disruptions on May 18, halting buses in the city centre from 6‑8 a.m. and 4‑6 p.m. to protest a demand for a 12% salary raise, higher health‑care assistance, and a larger food‑voucher allowance, as well as the reinstatement of night service. The employers' association offered a linear 3% increase, which the union rejected, and warned that a full‑scale strike could occur on May 25 if an agreement is not reached.
