Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam alliance expands with new housing projects

Local governments in South Korea's Busan, Ulsan and Gyeongsangnam‑do are deepening ultra‑regional cooperation to counter population loss and to position the area as a growth hub. Mayors Jeon Jae‑soo of Busan and Kim Sang‑wook of Ulsan met on July 2 to pledge joint work on transport, culture and other citizen‑facing services, aiming to create a seamless living zone that can compete with the Seoul metropolitan area.

Industry observers note that the initiative could eventually boost housing demand if improved transport links and industrial access materialise, though immediate effects on the property market are uncertain. In the third quarter, several new apartment complexes are slated for launch across the region, including Daeshap Triccent in Busan’s Nam‑gu, the Lake Summit Well‑Ga project in Jinju, a sample‑home development by Dongbu Construction in Geoje, and the TreeVeen Kimhae project in Gimhae. These developments range from 1300 to 800 units and are tied to nearby industrial zones, university campuses and newly planned transit lines.

Officials caution that the cooperation is still in early stages; concrete transport routes, budgets and construction timelines have yet to be finalised. Nevertheless, the combined effort is seen as a potential catalyst for longer‑term residential demand and economic revitalisation in the Busan‑Ulsan‑Gyeongnam corridor.
