In July 2026 Busan’s municipal government released the second‑phase “2035 Busan Aging Planned‑City Redevelopment Basic Plan,” outlining large‑scale upgrades across four districts, including higher floor‑area ratios, new parks, green corridors and expanded social‑infrastructure. The plan entered a public‑inspection period and was slated for council and ministerial review before a final announcement later in the year.

A week later, officials from Busan, Ulsan and Gyeongsang‑nam‑do announced an expanded ultra‑regional cooperation aimed at countering population decline and creating a growth hub that could rival the Seoul metropolitan area. The alliance pledged joint work on transport, culture and citizen services, and cited several new apartment projects tied to industrial zones, universities and upcoming transit lines across the corridor. While concrete transport routes and budgets remain under discussion, the cooperation signals that Busan’s redevelopment blueprint is being integrated into a broader regional strategy to stimulate housing demand and economic revitalisation.
