Hungarian stock market hits historic 150,000 point milestone

The Hungarian stock market reached a historic milestone as the BUX index closed above 150,000 points. This represents a 150-fold increase since its inception in 1991, reflecting long-term growth driven by major companies such as OTP Bank, Mol, Richter Gedeon, and Magyar Telekom. Analysts noted that the index's recent performance has outpaced some international markets, partly due to capital being redirected toward the Hungarian market.

In the Eurozone, June data from Eurostat shows a significant shift in trade dynamics. The region recorded a trade surplus of 8.6 billion euros, a notable recovery from the 9.0 billion euro deficit seen in May. This was driven by a 14.4 percent increase in exports compared to the previous year, totaling 272.5 billion euros.

Meanwhile, the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) experienced mixed performance during the week of August 10-14, 2026. While utility companies like Romgaz and Hidroelectrica saw gains, the banking sector and gas transport companies faced corrections. On the final trading session of the week, the main BET index saw a slight decline of 0.52 percent.
